Made in Shimane Prefecture using durable Iwami clay, each groove of these mortar bowls called "Kushime" is applied by the hands of skilled craftsmen. These lines are scored evenly with the edges made sharp for smooth grinding, and the shape designed for keeping the ingredients in the center of the bowl. The inside is finished with traditional Kimachi glaze for added durability and for its subtle reddish brown color to complement the food. Features a silicone base that stops them from sliding and scratching on surfaces while grinding and a spout for easy pouring. Established in 1925 and now in its third generation, MOTOSHIGE is a family-owned Japanese pottery producing mortars and graters by hand. Recommended to use with SURI WOODEN PESTLES. The large mortar bowl matches MOTOSHIGE's SURIKOGI PESTLES.
