Designed by Sori Yanagi, a Japanese industrial designer renowned for his simple and practical products ranging from furniture to kitchenware. As the son of the founder of the Mingei movement, Sori's designs were drawn from the aesthetics of Japanese folk crafts; finding beauty in the everyday objects made by unknown artists, focusing on using natural and local resources, traditional techniques and methods, and handmade production. The iron pan has a subtle metallic grayish finish on both the surface and the back from nitriding, which is a process that makes the pan highly resistant to rust and abrasions. Both sides of the pan also feature double fiber line processing, a treatment that creates an uneven surface to prevent food from sticking to the pan and for better heat conductivity. With the double sided spouts, the pan is designed so that it can be handled comfortably by both right and left-handed users. The knob on the lid and the handle on the pan are made of phenolic resin that does not get hot and is easy to grip. The lid has a unique design that can be fully closed or half opened depending on how it is positioned, allowing easy control from steaming to simmering.
