Made of Shigaraki pottery clay in Shiga Prefecture, this donabe rice cooker rich in compost material heats the rice slowly from its core, making the rice fluffy. Hi-iro is a traditional Japanese scarlet color, a very rare color used in pots. Modern glazing techniques are used to reproduce the unique color of the pots made in ancient times using clay from the bottom of Lake Biwa and firing them in flame started with Pine tree barks. Ame-iro is an exquisite candy-like color somewhere between dark brown and black, finished with a glossy and elegant glaze. Cooks 3-4 go (cups) of rice.
