Handmade in Shimane Prefecture using locally sourced Iwami clay, these mortars feature numerous small grooves called "Kushime." Each groove is expertly applied by the hands of skilled craftsmen, creating sharp edges for smooth grinding. The shape of the bowl is designed to keep the ingredients centered when bruising herbs or crushing seeds, nuts, and spices. The traditional Kimachi glaze adds durability and a subtle reddish-brown color to complement the food. With a non-slip silicone base and a convenient pouring spout, these ceramic mortars are also great for blending sauces and salad dressings. Established in 1925, MOTOSHIGE is a family-owned Japanese pottery now in its third generation. Recommended to use with SURI WOODEN PESTLES.
